This article examines “The Rebel”, a philosophical essay written by Albert Camus, an absurdist philosopher, and analysis of its emotives in three languages: French, Russian, and English. The research is based upon conceptual analysis and discourse analysis as well as Jacques Derrida’s principle of différance. The author has come to the conclusion that the list of emotives used by Albert Camus may be narrowed down to the following points: emotives that represent elements of 1) fire, 2) water, 3) feeling of cold, 4) dehumanizing, 5) emotional experiences, 6) alcohol intoxication, and 7) mental clouding. The true meaning of emotives under the points 1–2, and 5 primarily depend on the context, while the emotives under the points 3–4, 6, and 7 depict the consequences of absolute “no” and absolute “yes” of the philosophy of rebellion that are usually seen as negative.References:
