Abstract:

This article discusses the historical and architectural features of the Stakheev Eparchial Academy based on the data identified during the research of the documents of the State Archives of Kirov region. The documents were discovered in the Fund of Vyatka Governorate, Construction Department, and they showed the authentic appearance of the school built in 1903, its historical development features, design, and construction stages. They also allowed to identify the author of the construction works project, who turned out to be I. Charushin — a valuable component of the research indeed.

The paper also characterizes the role of the merchant class in the formation and development of the education system in the city, raises the questions of schools buildings organization, and traces the stages of establishing a school education system. The author investigates the influence of educational buildings on forming the architectural shape of the town of Yelabuga and analyzes the location and the problems related to the urban space.
