This article examines selected aspects of artistic reflection in the works of Innokenty Annensky and Stéphane Mallarmé. It aims to provide a comparative analysis of how each author conceptualizes the emergence of a poetic text. The study focuses on three works: Mallarmé’s “Don du Poème” (The Poem’s Gift), Annensky’s translation of this poem, and the latter’s “Third Tormenting Sonnet”. Drawing on intertextual analysis and a hermeneutic approach to poetic imagery, understood here as the description of specific modes of phenomenologization within the texts, the authors identify fundamental differences in how these writers conceive the genesis of a literary work. This divergence stems from their radically opposed views of both the poetic process and the role of the author within it. For Mallarmé, the meaning of this process lies exclusively in the creation of a perfect artistic form; for Annensky, by contrast, the primary aim is the transmission of a particular experience. The analysis thus highlights two distinct modes of poetic phenomenologization: On the one hand, a mode of deconstructing poetic images grounded in the (self-)disclosure of their dark intertextual depth (Mallarmé); on the other, a mode oriented toward conveying the immediate impression underlying the event of the text, thereby connecting it to the living reality from which it emerges (Annensky).Keywords:
