Abstract:

The article attempts to analyze texts generated by artificial intelligence models. To understand to what extent generative artificial intelligence resembles natural intelligence, 6 modalities developed by A. J. Greimas have been utilized. In this study, Greimas’ modalities, also known as “modal operators”, are considered as an important tool that can adequately assess the ability of generative AI to model various aspects of human thinking and behavior. Moreover, from 4th July, 2023 up to the end of July 2024, 500 texts have been generated with the help of ChatGPT-3.5 Turbo, ChatGPT-4, Midjourney, Claude, Suno, Perplexity AI, Mistral AI. The texts encompassed abstracts of reports, definitions of terms, syllabi and training program modules, lesson plans, guides on writing course papers and essays, teaching materials, recipes, fairy tales, fables and other types of texts. The texts have been examined based on textuality parameters by W. Dressler and R. de Beaugrande, and on communicative model by R. Jakobson. The conclusion is drawn that the output content is identical in form but differs in discursive parameters.
