The study reveals previously unknown facts about the biography of a representative of one of the most famous Tyumen merchant families — Maria Nikolaevna Kolokolnikova, who made an enormous contribution to the development of public education in Tyumen. Local historians have studied in detail the history of the Kolokolnikov family, beginning from the ancestor on the Tyumen land to the now living descendants. However, the origin of Maria Nikolaevna has remained a mystery to researchers until recently. According to a version that has been established among the local historians and the museum community, Maria Nikolaevna was born in Ishim of Tobolsk province and came from the noble family of the Golitsyns. In this work, based on an analysis of sources stored in the State Archives of the Tomsk Region and the Perm Territory, as well as scientific works on the history of the Urals industry and the Ural-Siberian merchants, for the first time information on the family from which Maria Nikolaevna Kolokolnikova came, the dates and places of her birth and wedding is given. The research results presented in the article make a significant contribution to the development of the local history.
