Occasional Collocations and the Means of Their Formation

Abstract:

This article focuses on the concept of occasional collocations and the ways of their formation. The authors understand the occasional collocation as a special type of authorial lexical units or original combinations of the words created with violation of lexical-semantic compatibility for the purpose of a certain esthetic function. Occasional units represent an expressive means of esthetic enrichment of literary text and valuable language material, which seems to be relevant in the modern linguistics studies.

This article aims to reveal ways of occasional collocations’ formation. Further classification of occasional collocations by the ways of their formation will promote further investigation of these units as well as peculiarities of their use in literary and poetic works.
