Linguistic image of a modern city (the study of hodonyms and ergonyms of Tyumen city)

Abstract:

In the article a complex approach to the study of Tyumen city’s hodonyms and ergonyms is represented: principles and methods of intracity object naming, its development and ethno-specific peculiarities are analyzed; the basic structural and semantic types of Tyumen city urbanonymy are determined and the degree of their productiveness in modern times is indicated. The paper highlights the facts of lexical-semantic types and the urbanonyms systems formation being dependent on extra-linguistic phenomena such as social and political processes that happen in the society. Regional onomastic vocabulary is viewed as a resource of sociocultural information revealing culturally marked and pragmatically significant content.
