Letters of Vladimir S. Pecherin (1807-1885) were published only in 2011. The article proves that the first attempts to get the epistolary heritage of Vladimir S. Pecherin published were made in the first half of 1930th by the V.I. Lenin State Library under the direction of Vladimir I. Nevsky. Back then the V.I. Lenin State Library was the place of employment of Boris Porshnev (1905-1972) who held there the office of a senior academic consultant in the Academic Bibliography Department and later became a famous Russian historian. It was he who was searching for Vladimir S. Pecherin’s letters in Moscow and Leningrad archives. The article contains four letters shedding light on the history of that search as well as on the attempt to publish S. Pecherin’s correspondence made by the V.I. Lenin State Library. Keywords:
