Abstract:

The paper focuses on the functional and thematic aspects of collocations used in the administrative and political sociolect of the “Tyumen News”, the regional Parliamentary newspaper. The functional analysis shows frequent deviancy in the semantic valence of lexical units as well as derivational and semantic changes. The thematic study has revealed that day-to-day managerial and regulatory collocations prevail in the print media. The observed incongruent collocations and semantic changes used by officials in the media affect the speech quality and speech intelligence of the press.
