The article is devoted to the analysis of structure and semantics of a medical metaphor in Innokenty Annensky’s lyrical system. The medical metaphor is understood as the lyrical image based on medical term but applied to express lyrical experience. Functions of a medical metaphor in structure of the poetic world of the separate poem and in Annensky’s esthetic system as a whole come to light. Thus Annensky’s anthropological poetics is considered against wide interest of positivistic science of the end of the XIX century to questions of physiology and psychology of the person (G. Helmholtz, E. Makh, R. Avenarius, I. Setchenov’s works, etc.), penetration of a medical discourse in publicistic and philosophical texts. The main attention is paid to a problem of assimilation of natural-science discourse by poetry of the Russian symbolism in connection with new idea of the content of lyrical experience and new understanding of nature of lyrical subjectivity («internal lyricism» by I. Annensky’s definition). Keywords:
