«Letters from the Russian museum» by V.A. Soloukhin as perceived be the French critics of 1960s

About the author:

Nicole S. Belskaya,

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the perception of Vladimir Soloukhin’s prose by the French literary criticism and researchers of the 1960s. The current research studies the correlation between the Russian and West-European literary traditions. The article underlines the necessity of a new approach to the understanding the works of V.A. Soloukhin. The article also takes into consideration that the perception of the writer’s works by the European literary society , as well as his own appreciation of the Western literary tendencies, has not been studied systematically. What the French critics assumed as symbols of the Soviet prose was “Master and Margaret” by M.M. Bulgakov, published posthumously, and “Letters from the Russian Museum” by V.A. Soloukhin. It is of great interest that in 1960s in France, “Letters from the Russian Museum” was viewed as a more integral work rather than essays, in terms of genres. They considred this work to be a book, a complex metaphor, aimed at searching for the national identity.
