Title:
International implications of the transnistrian «de-facto statehood»

About the author:

Andrey V. Devyatkov,

Abstract:

The article tackles the international implications of the Transnistrian de facto statehood for regional and global security. It is rather clear that it does not cause any substantial challenges in terms of “hard” or “soft” security. In the context of international law the Transnistrian case also does not create a threat for the dominating principle of territorial integrity of the state. Nevertheless, in the geopolitical sense Transnistrian de-facto statehood keeps on suppressing the normalization of international relations in the Eastern Europe. But in the context of the eventual European integration of Moldova Transnistria is in the risk of finding itself internationally isolated with the prospects of declining its geopolitical role and repeatingj the way of the Northern Cyprus.
