Aleksey Yu. Varaksin

Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Sci. (Phys.-Math.), Professor, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Head of the department at the Joint Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow, Russia).

Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation. Member of the National Committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Heat and Mass Transfer, Member of the Scientific Council of the International Center for Heat and Mass Transfer. World-class specialist in the field of two-phase media and its use in the energy sector. He obtained a number of new scientific results, among which: the determination of the influence of particles on the beginning of the laminar-turbulent transition; study of the processes of generation and dissipation of the energy of turbulence by particles; explanation of the effect of reducing the relative resistance of blunt bodies compared with more acute in heterogeneous flows; identifying dimensionless criteria that determine the presence and intensity of various collision processes in two-phase flows; solving the problem of generation, stability, and control of free concentrated vortices. Fundamental research results have been used to predict the effect of dust particles on compressor blades, unburned fuel particles on cooled working blades of high-temperature turbines, optimization of heterogeneous combustion processes in combustion chambers of gas turbine and combined-cycle plants, as well as in evaluating the heat erosion and contaminating effects of the dispersed phase on the heat exchange surfaces of steam generators working on solid fuels. Included in the editorial council of the journal, section "Thermal Physics and Thermology".
