Abstract:

The article briefly describes the specifics of terrorist and extremist crimes at the present time, the factors that cause the increased complexity of their prevention, detection and investigation are identified. It is necessary to use modern capabilities of biometrics to solve this problem. A general overview of the place of biometric methods in forensics is given. The potential role of fingerprinting, facial biometrics, genetic identification, studies of gait, voice, and keystroke dynamics for identifying criminals and proving their guilt is described in detail. As a result, the authors come to the conclusion that it is necessary to implement a set of measures (creation of domestic biometric systems, expansion of their technological orientation, creation of multimodal complexes, training of personnel, improvement of the legal framework, expansion of the list of forensic accounts and combination of automated methods with the work of the commission of experts) for the full and effective implementation of biometric identification technologies in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
