The information and telecommunications network Internet is a comprehensive network, which is a system that allows many people to simultaneously perform various operations around the world. A modern person, using a computer, mobile phone or any other gadget, can work, study, make purchases. E-commerce is a rapidly developing system that allows transactions to be carried out electronically and contributes to the economic development of the country. Electronic commerce, as a type of electronic commerce, is gaining momentum and developing more and more actively every year, all over the world. Offering services and goods, this area brings together governments, industries and business owners. With the help of modern Internet technologies, partners and buyers can interact effectively, which contributes to the growth of trade and the economy, which means that e-commerce is an important component of the information society and macroeconomics in general. In the process of functioning of this sphere of the digital economy, there are many security threats for business, consumers and the state, but there are also many advantages. The purpose of the study is to reveal trends in the development of e-commerce in the country, emerging threats and ways to level them, as well as possible ways to improve the efficiency of its functioning. The study was based on a phased disclosure of consumer opportunities in the e-commerce market, threats and ways to eliminate them; advantages of sellers in the process of electronic commerce, emerging threats to economic security and their prevention; advantages and disadvantages of e-commerce for the state. The study resulted in recommendations for countering the problems and potential threats hindering the development of e-commerce in Russia.Keywords:
