Cooperation of the BRICS countries in joint projects in the energy and transport sectors will have an impact on the contemporary world order; in particular, the countries will benefit from the merger and will set trends for the further development of integration processes. Joint development of hydrocarbon fields and the use of international transport corridors on the Yamal Peninsula will contribute to increasing Russia’s share in global exports of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) and ensuring China’s energy security.
This article presents the economic and legal characteristics of the international project “Yamal LNG” in constructing an integrated complex in the Tyumen Region. According to the provided information, the parties (Russia and China) are ready and willing to participate the project to achieve their mutually beneficial interests. The authors focus on the economic situation of the world energy market, in particular, on the prospects for the LNG use and the trends in the Arctic commercial shipping.
The results prove that the fuel and energy complex forms the main indices of the socio-economic development of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area (YaNAA). The authors have identified the potential and real risks of hydrocarbon production on the environment and the measures to minimize them. The conclusion formulates the strategic directions of cooperation between China and the Russian Federation in the YaNAA on the joint development of Russian fields and cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route.
