Comprehensive Methodology for the Analysis of Socio-Economic Characteristics of the Municipal Districts of the Novosibirsk Region

Abstract:

This paper provides a brief overview of the approaches of domestic specialists to the analysis of typological features of the regions. Various versions of typologies are shown, based on the use of economic and socio-economic indicators of the development of territories. The main difficulties associated with the procedure for constructing typologies are listed. A comprehensive methodology for analyzing the socio-economic characteristics of the municipal districts of the Novosibirsk Region is proposed. The methodology assumes the use of several methods (sectoral economic grouping, clusters and the calculation of the Social Development Index) and various data types (spatial and spatial-temporal).

It is shown that this method allows obtaining a stable typology of municipal regions of the Novosibirsk Region. In particular, based on the official statistics for the year 2016, the following clusters of the districts of Novosibirsk region were identified: agricultural areas with developed livestock, areas with a developed mixed type of production, areas with problematic agricultural production and problematic areas with a mixed type of production.

The obtained results do not contradict the sectoral economic grouping of districts performed according to the data of 2009-2014. As a result of comparison of the values of the Social Development Index for different types of areas, a correlation was found between the social and economic development of the municipal districts of the Novosibirsk Region. Intermediate results of the study are illustrated by means of cartograms. The factors that differentiate the municipal districts of the region according to the level of social and economic development and the industrial structure of production are described. Unique and typical features of the districts of the Novosibirsk Region are described according to the data of passports and innovative passports of the districts for 2016. The prospects of using the proposed complex methodology for forming a multistage regionalized sample of sociological research are formulated.
