The article is devoted to the essential problems of student employment — a phenomenon widely covered in the contemporary scientific literature and the subject of numerous interdisciplinary studies. For each Russian region, the processes of students entering the labor market and combining studies and work have their own specific features, as shown in various surveys and questionnaires. The purpose of this study is to describe the main features of student employment in Russian regions through the analysis of its key parameters: measure, format and motives. The starting point of the research is the results of students’ survey in Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service, one of the leading higher education institutions in the Primorsky Region. Besides this the author analyzes the results of seventeen researches by Russian scientists from fifteen cities and two all-Russian researches devoted to student employment, and the author identifies their common and specific features. Based on the analysis, the author makes the conclusion about the similarity of the processes in combining study and work among students in the regions as well as the necessity for its regulation.
