This article analyzes the dynamics of labor motivation and economic activity of the Krasnoyarsk Territory population in 2010-2014. The applied methodology is based on the sociocultural approach, developed by N. I. Lapin and implemented in the “Socio-cultural portrait of the region” research program of the Center for the Study of Socio-cultural Change of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The empirical basis of the research is the data of representative surveys of the population of the region, conducted by semi-formalized interviews, and national and regional socio-economic statistical data. The article shows that during 2010-2014 market labor motivation of the region’s population has increased. Moreover, the potential for the private business development (including small business) in the region is far from exhausted. It is concluded that the economic activity development of the population is largely constrained by institutional barriers.
