Ethno-religious extremism: the conceptual and categorical system of the study and public opinion on the issue

Abstract:

The article presents the analysis of ethno-religious extremism as a form of deviant behavior of anti-systemic character. The authors’ approach to the examination of the essence of ethno-religious extremism is introduced, as well as the conceptualization of this term, along with main criteria and types of manifestations of religious extremism in the social structure. The theoretical part of the article is supplemented by the results of sociological research conducted in February-April 2014. The aim of the survey was to identify the opinion of the population of the Tyumen region on the current condition of intercultural relations and manifestations of ethno-religious extremism. The results of the survey show us rather intense intercultural interaction in the Tyumen region existing on a latent level. The majority of respondents are tolerant to representatives of other cultures, although there is a hostility to certain ethnic and religious groups, though of not a wide-scale nature.
