Deepening raw material export specialization of the region poses particular strain in the structure of the economy of extracting regions. In article on the basis of the analysis of the statistical information shows the role of the oil and gas sector in the socio-economic development of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and its importance for the development of other sectors of the regional economy. Risks and prospects of the current economic model have been identified.
