Abstract:

The public initiative “Big Year” on a bird’s photo account was successfully held for the first time in the Tyumen Region in 2016. The main objective of the initiative is to photograph as many bird species as possible during a calendar year in a certain area. This article presents materials on the Tyumen Region. The initiative was attended by 112 people who made 1,318 photos of 212 species of birds. Actual encounters were obtained for 57% of bird species from the region’s fauna. All photo materials are available on the Internet in the group “Bolshoy god v Tyumenskoy oblasti — 2016” [Big Year in the Tyumen Region — 2016] in the social network “VKontakte”. Along with the usual species there were rare and even single findings, such species as Great White Pelican Pelecanus onocrotalus, Great Black-headed Gull Larus ichthyaetus, Red-flanked Bluetail Tarsiger cyanurus, Blackbird Turdus merula, Pallas’s Rosefinch Carpodacus roseus. The results obtained served as a basis for the preparation of several scientific papers, including this one. This work contains a list of the most interesting observations of 13 species of birds in the Tyumen Region with the analysis of literary data, which will enable the inclusion in the scientific circulation of materials from the social network on the Internet.
