Previously, he worked as a leading researcher at the Laboratory of Landscape Ecology and Protection of Forest Ecosystems at the Forest Research Institute of Karelian Research Centre of the RAS. At present he is the coordinator of the international Finnish-Russian project on biodiversity in the context of climate change. This project involves more than 200 researchers from 5 countries. He organized two international seminars on the project in April 2014 in Miass (Ural, Russia) and in October 2014 in the reserve "Stolby" (Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia), as well as the 7th International Scientific Conference on the Black Grouse Ecology in Europe (Pechoro-Ilych State Reserve, May 24-28, 2014, the Komi Republic, Russia). Author of about 60 scientific works, incl. 15 monographs, 10 articles in the Scopus and Web of Science (h-index in the Russian Science Citation Index 7).
